One of your first observations about the tables is that they each have an Allow Nulls column, which is also reflected in Figure 8-1. When designing a table, you need to consider what s absolutely necessary (Not Null) and what s not (Null). For instance, when you insert a new row into the Product table, it might not matter whether the product has a photo, but it might be a problem to have a product without a product number. Now let s correlate how allowing null is related to data integrity. Whenever a table is designed with columns that don t allow null, the RDBMS will reject any insertion of a new row that has a column set to null when it is not supposed to be. When you pay attention to those columns that cannot be set to null when designing your tables, you automatically add another data integrity layer by making sure that all the necessary data is present before the record is inserted into the database.

This section discusses the procedures necessary for configuring a Windows XP Professional based client to access IP telephony services by using the H.323 protocol in an environment where an H.323 proxy or gateway is present. If your Windows XP Professional based computer connects directly to the Internet, or an H.323 gateway is not used, this configuration is not required. Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server provides an H.323 proxy and gatekeeper.

The H.323 protocol incorporates support for placing calls from data networks to the switched circuit PSTN network, and vice versa by using an IP-PSTN gateway. The H.323 Telephony Service Provider provides support for gateway calling by using a static configuration option, accessible through Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel.

To specify the address of the IP-PSTN gateway 1. In Control Panel, click Phone and Modem Options. 2. Click the Advanced tab, and then select Microsoft H.323 Telephony Service Provider. 3. Click Configure. Select the Use H.323 gateway check box, as shown in Figure 26-7, and then type the computer name or IP address of the IP-PSTN gateway in the text box.

area code and include any specific prefixes that should be used. Under Rules, select whether to dial 1 before the area code and whether to dial the area code. Click OK to save the rule. If an area code must be dialed for certain prefixes but not for others, define two area code rules for the area code, one rule for each group of prefixes. You can then create additional rules for other area codes by clicking the New button on the Area Code Rules tab, or you can edit an existing rule using the Edit button.

The telephony application running at the gateway must conform to ITU-T H.323 v1.0 standards. For information about the installation and configuration of an IP-PSTN gateway, see Telephony Integration and Conferencing in the Internetworking Guide.

The Microsoft H.323 TSP incorporates support for firewall traversal. Use Phone and Modem Options to specify the inner IP address of the firewall computer. This allows calls to be made and received across the Internet. To specify the IP address of the H.323 proxy 1. In Control Panel, click Phone and Modem Options. 2. Click the Advanced tab, and then select Microsoft H.323 Telephony Service Provider. 3. Click Configure. Select the Use H.323 proxy check box, and then type the computer name or IP address of the inner edge of the H.323 proxy or firewall computer in the text box.

Part IV:

Area Code Rule dialog box often cause problems. Keep in mind that a 1 will always be dialed if the Dial option is selected as will the area code if that option is selected. If you are having problems with a dialing rule concerning 1 and/or the area code, the area code rule is always the culprit.
