In the list of drivers, find either the Microsoft Access Driver (for a desktop database) or the SQL Server driver (for a project file) in the list, click it to select it, and click Finish. Creating Static and Dynamic Web Pages The sample Active Server Pages for the Housing Reservations database use a data source name called Housing. Type Housing in the Data Source Name box, and then type something to help you identify the purpose of the DSN in the Description box. After you point to the database and click OK, you return to the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog box, which should now look like Figure 26-17.

When your database is secured, you should click Database in the System Database box and then click the System Database button to point to your workgroup file. You can also click the Advanced button to define the login name and password of a user authorized to open the database. However, when you supply the login name and password in a DSN, anyone authorized to access the Web page will automatically be logged in to the database. When you don t supply a login name and password, the browser prompts the user for this information.

Notice that the location specified for the database is a physical drive, path, and file name. You should be sure that the location is one that is accessible to your Web server. Because you re defining this DSN for the Web server on your machine, the physical path should work fine. Be aware that you might need to use a network path or UNC (Universal Naming Convention, in the form \\webservername\networkshare\filename) to a network share when you define a DSN on your actual Web server. Click OK in the dialog box to complete the definition of your new system DSN. You can now use Housing as the data source name when you export Active Server Pages that use data from the Housing Reservations sample database (Housing.mdb).

You can export tables, queries, and the recordset for forms to an Active Server Page with the same limitations explained earlier in Table 26-1. You cannot export a report to an Active Server Page. Now that you have your system DSN defined, exporting data and applying a template is very similar to exporting to HTML. For this example, select the qryFacilities query again in the Database window and then choose Export from the File menu. Access displays the Export Table qryFacilities As dialog box. In the Save as type drop-down list, choose Microsoft Active Server Pages (*.asp). Note that Access selects the Save formatted option automatically but disables the Save formatted and Autostart options so that you can t change them. Click the Export button, and Access displays the Microsoft Active Server Pages Output Options dialog box, as shown in Figure 26-18.
