To illustrate the concept of building a workflow for a form, let s build a simplified approval workflow for our Request for Absence form. I will keep this process simple while showing how easy it is for you to build workflows for your libraries. To begin a new workflow, open SharePoint Designer from your Start menu. Before you can start a new workflow, you have to select the site where you want to work. Like all the other Office 2010 products, you can open the File drop-down menu to access the BackStage options. In the list on the left side, select Sites, as shown in Figure 10-53. Notice that you can use SharePoint Designer to create a new Blank site, add a subsite to your current MySite, customize an existing site, and more. In this case, you want to open an existing site to create a workflow for the Request for Absence form created earlier. Actually, you will create an XML workflow on the XML data saved by the Request for Absence form. If you did not select the check box back on Figure 10-30 to allow the user to edit the data added to the SharePoint library as a column, you will be able to change the data in the XML file outside of the form. However, it will allow us to build a workflow that can approve or reject the individual requests.
