Data access pages, introduced in Access 2000, are just one of the tools you can use to work with your Access data in a Web page. Data access pages are completely different from any of the other objects in Access. As with linked tables, data access pages (DAPs for short) are not physically stored inside the Access database like forms and reports, but are actually HTML files with a link to an object in your Access desktop database or project file. When you open a DAP in Page view, Access starts a copy of your Web browser inside its workspace and asks it to display the .htm page linked into your DAP object definition. You can also directly open the .htm file that is your DAP outside Access using a Web browser.

The Record Number box shows the relative record number of the current record (meaning the number of the selected record in relation to the current set of records, also called a recordset). You might not see the current record in the window if you ve scrolled the display. The number to the right of the new record button shows the total number of records in the current recordset. If you ve applied a filter against the table (see Searching for and Filtering Data, page 272), this number might be less than the total number of records in the table or query.
