When you create a layer override, the Layer Properties Manager displays a light blue block in the column for the layer s name, the column for the property you overrode, and the VP column for that property. A new layer filter, Viewport Overrides, appears in the Layer Filter list, which displays only layers that have viewport overrides. You can remove overrides in several ways, depending on whether you want to remove all of a layer s overrides and whether you want to remove overrides in all viewports (as opposed to the current one). To create the effects shown in Figures 14.40 and 14.41, use the hibiscus and the Waiamanalo background we started with way back in Figure 14.6. The only difference is, for purposes of the Apply Image command, both images have been separated out so they re now in independent images in their own windows. After switching to the background image and choosing Image Apply Image, the hibiscus image was selected from the Source pop-up menu. We selected the Add option from the Blending pop-up menu and accepted the default Scale and Offset values of 1 and 0, respectively, to achieve the first example. The flower goes blindingly bright, much lighter than it would under any other blend mode, even the Dodge modes. To improve the quality and detail of the image, the Scale value was changed to 1.2 to slightly downplay the brightness values, and an Offset value of 60 was used to darken the colors uniformly. The result of this operation is the more satisfactory image shown in the second example of the figure. For the sake of comparison, the final example shows what happens when introducing the background image into the face layer using the Add mode, with a Scale of 1.2 and an Offset of 60.
